Lagunas de Ruidera

Hey guys!  So on Wednesday we traveled to the Ruidera Lakes in Castile-La Mancha, Spain.  There are about 15 of these lagoons that vary in colors and are all interconnected through small canals.  We hiked first to the main waterfall, but it is so surrounded by nature that you can only see it from afar and cannot get too close to it.  Then we continued our hike until we came upon a bat cavern, so we put on our helmets and headlamps to head down under.  I couldn't see any bats, but it was interesting to see the layout of the cave and the beautiful crystals that formed in the ceiling.  Our visit was on a rainy day so we took cover in a restaurant for lunch and luckily it cleared up so we could go kayaking!  We kayaking around the lagoon and then had to drag our kayak through a small canal so that we could enter a new lagoon and swim around there.  The water was a clear blue and in some areas it was even turquoise, and it was possible to see the bottom most of the time.  After our swim, we changed and got on the bus to head home for our hospital shadowing the next day.  This week I am shadowing cardiac surgery and it has been amazing!  I was able to witness 2 aortic valve replacements and a graft for the heart.  I can't believe I have already been here for 2 weeks it has been going by too fast!!
